Equality Forum: Poverty Proofing

Compliance with statutory and contractual requirements.

The 2017 Competency Framework for Governors states:

All those elected or appointed to boards should fulfil their duties in line with the seven principles of public life (the Nolan principles). They should also be mindful of their responsibilities under equality legislation, recognising and encouraging diversity and inclusion. They should understand the impact of effective governance on the quality of education and on outcomes for all children and young people.

The Governor Equality Forum is designed to support governors to understand their responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010. The network aims aims to support governors to effectively work with schools to develop safe learning environments in which all children and young people have the opportunity to develop a positive sense of identity and to achieve. The network is open to all governors who can attend one meeting or a series and will involve sharing of practice, elements of training and when appropriate governor involvement in resource or guidance development. The outcome for each meeting will be that governors leave with a key question or action for their governing body or setting. Governors are invited to suggest topics or themes for the meeting or to present good practice from their setting. If you would like to know more about the network please email
